CHAT GPT FOR BUSINESSES: THE PROS & CONS OF USING AI LANGUAGE MODELS

Written by Hannah Barker | Apr 13, 2023 10:13:15 AM

ChatGPT has become a global phenomenon since it was launched in November last year, with a reported 100 million people logging into it by the end of January. ChatGPT stands for ‘Generative Pre-trained Transformer’, a form of artificial intelligence that processes language and helps to create responses automatically. This technology has many potential applications, including language translation, summarisation, and content generation.

At Concorde Technology Group, we recognise that ChatGPT can be an incredibly useful tool when used appropriately but can pose some risks.

Benefits of using ChatGPT for businesses

ChatGPT can enhance the human work process by automating mundane tasks and delivering more engaging interactions with users. Here are several ways businesses can use tools like ChatGPT effectively:

  • Helping with research
  • Brainstorming ideas
  • Supporting content creation
  • Writing and understanding computer code
  • Automating interactions with customers
  • Translating languages

The risks of using ChatGPT for businesses

With the powerful capabilities ChatGPT has, and the opportunities it can create for businesses, the technology does pose some risks surrounding security, the accuracy of responses, and plagiarism and can even be used by cyber criminals to exploit critical business data.

Sharing sensitive or confidential information

One of the primary disadvantages of using a ChatGPT is sharing sensitive or confidential information. There are concerns that any information that is provided that ChatGPT becomes the intellectual property of OpenAl. The NCSC has recently announced that currently, these models do not disclose your information to other users. However, it is crucial to note that the organisation offering the service, in this case OpenAI, can see your queries, which means that OpenAI may have access to the contents of what you’ve typed in.

Plagiarism

Chat GPT can produce accurate and detailed content quickly, which may lead users to copy and paste information from other sources without properly attributing them. This could have serious legal consequences if discovered and therefore must be avoided at all costs.

Phishing Emails

ChatGPT can create human-like content in a conversational way and can be used to generate content in a way that seems like it was written by a real person. Although this is an extremely powerful capability, it could also mean that it could be used in a criminal way.

Cybercriminals are much more likely to target those who lack security knowledge than IT professionals who will recognise a phishing attempt. Cyber security awareness is critical so that your employees understand the risks, know how to spot threats and take the right actions accordingly.

Accuracy and originality of response

ChatGPT can only provide users with information prior to the year 2021 which can cause incorrect information and possibly information that is not correct. It has very limited knowledge of the recent developments in every field. This is why you should avoid creating all the content with this tool as it may cause some blunders and readers may quickly realise that you rely on AI, not research or knowledge.

Chat GPT is an excellent tool for time and cost saving, writing quality content, generating codes, and improving skill sets. However, totally relying on it can create many problems that can ultimately damage a person’s credibility. Ultimately, the decision of whether to use ChatGPT depends upon your individual requirements and objectives.
