Work Experience at Concorde

Written by Olivia Grace | Aug 8, 2019 10:55:00 AM

Here at Concorde Technology Group, we welcome both work experience students and apprentices to gain insight and knowledge in how our operations work.

Recently, Jack Mason, a student from the 6th Form of Silcoates School in Wakefield, joined Concorde for a week’s work experience in different areas of the business. Jack is studying A-Level Computer Science which he hopes leads to a degree in Computer Science so Concorde was a good choice for the work experience.

As well as spending time in the Operations Bridge and Configuration Suite, Jack also sat with the Service Desk and our Professional Services teams to get the full technical experience of how Concorde operates.

In today’s blog, we look at Jack’s experience with Concorde, and how you can apply for work experience with us:

Learning on the Job

To get Jack started, Justin Smith of the Operations Bridge team sat with Jack to show him the ropes.

“During his work experience, Jack learned about our Monitoring and Managed Services, one of the proactive arms of our Support Team,” says Justin. “He witnessed actual live events detected by our Monitoring Tools, and the subsequent rapid response and remediation activities”.

Jack was impressed to see the technologies in use to capture and track these events and it gave him a good appreciation of how such incidents are handled.

“Jack was also introduced to our backup monitoring and reporting activities, and how this all ties into our monitoring platform and daily tasks,” continues Justin. “Jack showed a genuine interest in what we shared with him and asked some great questions.”

Next stop for Jack was the Configuration Suite, where Alex Green was on hand to teach Jack about the inner workings of deploying client images to customer-specific devices. Jack was quick to pick up different techniques and was trusted to work unsupervised to help deploy various images within a set time frame at the highest quality.

“It was a pleasure working with Jack for the short time he was with me,” says Alex. “Very hands-on and eager to learn, Jack adapted very well to different processes.”

“I really enjoyed my time at Concorde and it was good to see different parts of the business and how they all fit together to provide a joined-up IT service to customers. The past week has strengthened my desire to follow a career in Information Technology and I would like to thank Concorde for the experience”, commented Jack.
